Organizing

The best laid plans.......yep, went a bit awry.  The days I wanted to arrive in Sequim to house hunt is the Lavender Festival weekend.  I now know it is the 3rd weekend in July every year. :0)  The place was booked up solid.

I was trying to decide whether it would be best to drive my RV van or take the Jetta and stay in a hotel for 5 nights.  I found out rather quickly.  All of the hotels in Sequim during the summer charge a fortune.  Even the Econolodge is over $100/night.  Yikes.

So, I will be driving up in the van and staying at the Dungeness recreation area on the spit in Sequim.  No hook-ups, but loads of hiking trails and the ocean.  Best thing is that it is $22/ night.  I'd rather sink the Econolodge money into gasoline and stay in a pristine area.

"At 5.5 miles in length, the Dungeness Spit is the world's longest naturally occurring sand spit and home to the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is a sanctuary for over 250 species of birds, 41 species of land mammals and eight species of water mammals. Its trails and picnic areas offer breathtaking views of the beaches, Dungeness harbor and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
If you're up for the hike or a paddle to the end of the spit, you'll find the old Dungeness Lighthouse, built in 1857 and now on the National Register of Historic Places. The new Dungeness Light Station Association has manned the lighthouse since 1994. Access to the Light Station is limited to hikers at low tide and small boats in calm seas. Boats and kayaks need to call ahead for reservations as water access is limited to minimize the disturbance to marine mammals and birds."

I have been making up a notebook of all of the homes I would like to see while I am there.  There are about 25 homes with property that I would like see.  I keep thinking....low maintenance and a garage are a few of the important items.  The house doesn't have to be big, but it must have lots of light.  I have always lived with some privacy, so that's important, too.  I will try to save enough money for fencing for our dogs.

I was surprised at how many people (everyone at work) were fairly clueless about where I want to  move to.  Most had never heard of the Strait of Juan De Fuca.  Such a beautiful area.

I'm getting real excited.  Too bad Wayne can't join me, but of course he has to work.  With the slight change in my plans I most likely will have to call in sick for a couple of days at my work place.  I haven't called off in over a year, so I don't think it will hurt me in that respect.  I will arrive on Sunday, the last day of the Lavender festival.  Heck....I may want to check it out.

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday I will be seeing homes.  I have decided to take Champ with me for the ride.  Maybe, I can stop on the way home at Suzy's in Plymouth for a lesson.  That would be an added plus since she is 6 1/2 hrs. away from Green Valley.  I may even stop in at Cottage Grove, Oregon on the way up to watch a bit of the Palm Cottage open trial.  Depends on how I am doing with driving.  It's a looong drive.

Well...that's about it.  More thoughts later.  My camping spot is right on the loop trail :0)

I have put together a notebook of the places I'd like to look at. That way I can jot notes on the back of each pictured house and property for Wayne.:0)
