Morning ponderings

Yesterday, I found out there is a God.  I was able to leave my work at noon instead of 7:30 PM.  I drove straight home and collapsed into sleep.  A few hours later, Wayne came home early from work and collapsed into a deep sleep.  The last two weeks caught up with us!  Very unusual for both of us to come home early and pass out.  The fire and Xena took their toll on us...no doubt.

Anyway, I slept all night like a log even after an afternoon nap.  After our naps, we took the toy hauler over to Task farms for some of the northern people coming for the USBCHA trial this weekend to stay in.  I can hang in my little RV van.

This should be a fun trial.  I think we have close to 40 entries each day for our first attempt at putting on a USBCHA trial.  And, we have a few surprises in store for everyone.  We mixed some lambs and some very lightly worked hampshires into the dog broke flock.  Last night while Wayne was setting up the toy hauler, I worked Champ on the flock.  The Hamps didn't want to flock so he had to really think and work.  I had a huge grin on my face watching while he was trying to figure everything out.  We have a long way to go, but Champ is going to be my partner.  I'm letting him figure stuff out at his own rate of speed (which is slower than the girls, for sure).  I love his easy going, happy personality and his extreme want to please all of the time.  He was kind of an aloof pup rarely coming when called without sniffing a few bushes, etc.  All of that is gone now.  I just whisper his name and he is front and center.

Champ is like....what is that?  I'm not your mama!

Later this morning I will be going over to help set up for the trial.  I believe Terry will be setting on horseback on one of the days.  Plus, the pen will not be a NORMAL pen.  I believe we are taking the gate off for pro-novice having the handler stand at the post to pen and then on another day we are using a stock trailer for the pen.  It will take some skill and a little bit of the luck of the draw.  :0)

Yoko out of respect always cleaned Xena's eyes at night.  Last night she looked at her empty bed and then walked over to Jet and licked his eyes.  Someone said, "The torch has been passed."  So true.  Jet is the grand patriarch now at 13 yrs. of age.  Kilt has always wanted to be leader of the pack, but I don't see that "ever" happening for her.  She is too bossy.  A leader has to have a quiet dignity about them.

My dilemma this morning is who to take to Terry's with me and who to leave behind.  Seems easy, but it isn't.  Jet, Xena, and Trouble (our eldest) always have been kenneled together.  I'd like to take Jet, but then who is Trouble going to have for a partner?    I have to think about this and regroup.  I may take the whole bunch of them :0)  Wayne can pick up a few to bring home tonight on his way home from work.

I found Jet's fire story from over a decade ago.  I have a copy that was printed in the Clicker Journal.  When I have more time, I will make a copy and blog it for you all to read.  Till then...time for me to organize and get on the road.  Y'all have a great weekend!
