A funny thing happened......

This story is for my friend Bob Singer. Malibu Bob AKA What About Bob...my eccentric dog trainer friend. It may be sheer coincidence, Bob, but you're going to love this.

Yoko has been digging a huge cavern in my yard at the edge of the porch. When I say "huge" I mean some 2 1/2 feet wide and deep. Now I'm sure there are varmints living under the porch. We do live on a mountain. But, I have been a bit worried that Yoko looks a bit sore in the front. Every time I fill in the hole, she digs a new and deeper hole. I catch her in the act of digging, yell at her and fill it up again.

Almost 3 weeks ago I sat down by the hole and called Yoko over to me. She was looking rather sheepish and probably figured I was going to go into my "NO HOLES YOKO" routine. Instead, I looked her in the eye and said, "Yoko don't dig here anymore. I'm tired of filling in this cave."

Yep, you guessed it.....no holes. When Yoko goes to dig she jumps in the air like a Kangaroo rat and pounces on her front feet and then starts digging madly. I have seen her go by the area she is used to digging in and give a pounce, stop, think, and then go on her merry way. I'm so happy that she isn't digging, but after over a year of digging, I'm a bit perplexed by this.

Her sire, Jet, is so smart, people used to kid me that he could read the agility course numbers. Maybe, I should sit down with Yoko before each sheepdog event and have some small girl chat with her. "Okay Yoko, after you bring the sheep to me, I want you to take them through that set of panels on a ruler straight line and then......."

Coincidence or not, at least she's not digging any more:)
